Up to twenty postgraduate places are available annually for the twelve-month SLE course of study. Guest listeners may also attend and make a reservation for individual modules. Participants have completed a master’s degree at university in a subject relevant to development cooperation and during their degree course dealt identifiably with development-related issues. The scope of subjects is vast. Green subjects such as agricultural science, landscape planning, environmental engineering, geography or geology are some of the more common qualifications; economics and the social, political and cultural sciences are likewise in demand. Law with an international focus, anthropology, psychology and other subjects may in certain circumstances be suitable. Applicants speak fluent German and English, and if possible a further UN language. They have addressed development issues both in theory and practice, and are familiar with developing or transition countries, where they have worked or had placements for longer periods. |
